Gov. Sean Parnell has asked the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to reconsider a decision denying a permit for ConocoPhillips' CD-5 project in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, arguing the agency failed to follow its own procedures in the decision.

Marathon finds a zone in Kenai Peninsula gas exploration well

Marathon Oil Co. has encountered "a zone of interest" in an exploration well on the Kenai Peninsula, company officials said.

One partner drops out of Slope exploration wells

One of two exploration wells being drilled on the North Slope has turned out to be a water producer, causing one of the three partners in the venture to drop out. However, the remaining partners aren't giving up on the well, which is being drilled by Brooks Range Petroleum.

Lower halibut prices, catches expected as season kicks off

Blustery winds and high seas were set to put a damper on Alaska's March 6 halibut opener, and prices were expected to be artificially high for skimpy landings of the season's first fresh fish.
